Time for Turkey Talk
Ron Schara

Ron Schara and friend John Hauer have been addicted to turkey hunting for more than three decades. Their enthusiasm for the wild turkey led to the creation of the Turkey Track Club in 1974.

Why’d they create the camp? Quite simply: Their devotion to one of the greatest of all game, the gobbler. After all, Benjamin Franklin had such respect for the cunning wild turkey he wanted it to be the national bird.

Back when Ron and John started the camp, there was no turkey hunting season in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and many other states. Ron and John had a mission to share their passion about wild turkey hunting.

The Turkey Track Club guides, members of the South Dakota Guides Association and the National Wild Turkey Federation, emphasize hunter safety and respect for the bird and the land. They hunt only wild birds. Their landscape is beautiful ponderosa pine forest along with some oak and open meadows. Classic Merriam Turkey habitat.

Hunters’ success ranges from 45 to 85 percent during each camp, depending on the weather and bird populations. The Turkey Track Club is 100 percent successful with providing quality turkey hunting experiences.

Comfortable cabins greet tired but happy hunters when they return to the central lodge, located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Whether you’re an old pro turkey hunter or just starting out, the Turkey Track Club offers the best chance to experience the legendary pursuit of the Merriam Wild Turkey.
