Nest Update April 19, 2013 - H and P Play in the Snow!

Good Evening, Fellow SoggyCottonwoodites!!

The morning at the nest started much as the day ended last night. Snowed in and cold. Overnight we heard several branches crack and crash from the weight of the snow. Mom and the kids were not disturbed by this but the chatters were pretty worried. Dawn showed us all was well and Mom got the day started feeding the eaglets. Dad brought a bullhead to the nest and H&P got to taste what will be their favorite food, fish.As the day wore on the sun was out more and more and the snow began to melt. Dad brought some new grass to cover the snow and help melt it faster. Lots of feedings were seen and Peace held her own with her sibling. Bonking was at a minimum as Mom fed them lots of fish and other goodies. The evening light was beautiful as Mom filled their bellies one last time before bed. Kirby rays shown on H&P for the first of many times to come. The weather tomorrow night and Sunday looks dicey again but we know this eagle family will come through with flying colors and the chatters and mods will help them with all their good wishes and happy thoughts.

Well, On to the vids and pics of the day.

We have a vid from yesterday that was a late arrival and did not make last nights blog.

A beak nip as thanks for the fish.

See! Storms aren’t a problem for us!

Harmony and Peace waiting for a snack.

It turned into a lovely day-after-the-storm at the nest. We had lots to see even if the Ustream chat servers were strained under an enormous load from the Boston manhunt. The Social Stream was goofy all day because of this and we struggled to communicate with each other. A lot of us just went to full screen and enjoyed the pics as they arrived. Hope Ustream is better tomorrow. Well, time to put this one to bed and head there myself.

Hope you had a great day on the nest and we will see you there tomorrow!

Nest Update April 18, 2013 - The Nest is “Peace” ful!

Good Evening, Fellow SnowyNestigians!!

A personal note before we get started: The blog has had over 19,500 and 40,400 views in the last week and month respectively. I thank you for all the support you have given it and will endeavor to make the blog better than ever going forward. Thank You!!!

This morning at dawn Peace came to Minnesota. She hatched overnight after teasing us all day yesterday. Our new little addition was spotted as Mom got up to stretch after a long night on the nest. We got a better look after the sun came up and Mom was feeding Harmony. The first thing Harmony did was bonk Peace as she started to eat. Chatters immediately wanted to know what the little ones name was going to be. Speculation was rampant as we waited for BBC to announce the name. Finally they did and the crowd went wild! Chatters loved the name and we now have peace and harmony in the nest. We’ll see how long that lasts!

A giant late winter storm hit the nest today as Peace was settling in. It started to snow and just kept on snowing. Soon Mom was beak deep and the little ones were hiding in the brood patch. Dad came to the nest to keep Mom company during the worst of the first snow bands. Mom did feed the little ones a couple of times but otherwise stayed put over the eaglets.Late in the day she turned several directions to find a better position in the wind. We are lucky in one sense in that the “snowglow” kept it light enough to see Mom well after it got dark. Hang in there, Mom!

On to the vids and pics of the day!

Well we have had a delightful and scary day here at the nest as we welcomed Peace and watched the storm cover the nest. The snow is supposed to blow out and the weather improve as we go to the weekend. Hope so!

Thanks to all who made the day on the nest a rewarding one today! And Thanks to BBC, the mods, Razzle and all who helped make this blog what it is. Thank You!

Hope you had a great day on the nest and we will see you there tomorrow!

Nest Update April 17, 2013 - A Pip and A Pipsqueek

Good Evening, Fellow Nestologists!

Today was semi eventful at the nest.  The weather deteriorated all day as another storm approached.  Our 2nd pip got larger but there was no hatch before nightfall. Hopefully the rising sun will show a new little eaglet to the world. Our little pipsqueek Harmony started her growth to eaglehood and we saw her first PS of the season. Dad, the magnificent hunter, brought several items of food to the nest and the chatters had much fun trying to identify the carcasses. Mom, ever the doting parent, fed our little one and even pushed Dad aside again when he tried to feed her. We had many good closeups and pans again and the pics were spectacular! Thanks BBC! So without further ado here are todays vids from Mich989Razzle. Thanks Razzle!

Ever seen an eaglets tongue? Cool to watch.

Nest Update April 16, 2013 - Harmony’s First Day!

Good Evening, Fellow Harmonyans!

Today was like the calm after the storm at the nest! The weather was clear and beautiful as we enjoyed the first looks at Harmony having its first meal and Mom and Dad being proud parents. The little fluffball is the cutest thing on talons! Its down puffed out as it was supposed to and its squees are wonderful to hear. First feeding was about 7:15 am and Harmony sat right up and took notice. Mom fed it a few chunks of meat and then they both sat back down for a nap. Dad spent a lot of time away from the nest and brought back some more food for the larder. He took a couple of turns with Harmony and the egg and fed H a couple of times too. We believe the second egg is pipped and anxiously await the arrival of Harmony’s sibling! A hatch can take 12-24 hours or more so we may have a long wait.

The mods, chatters and perchers all seemed to catch their breath after yesterday’s posting marathon on the social stream. We were lucky to have almost 3000 perchers with us on the nest all day today. I hope you all had a great time with us as BBC zoomed in to see little Harmony in marvelous HD! The closeups and panning are the best we have ever seen in a nest cam. I have never seen an egg tooth fill a 32in monitor before and it was amazing! I hope you all were amazed too!

Uhhhh, I must gloat here a little bit. On the 14th of March, the day after the 2nd laying, I predicted on the Social Stream that the first hatch would be on the 15th of April at 6:46pm. In the ensuing weeks several chatters scoffed at me and said No Way, Dude! One, FrankfromChicago, even made a bet with me that his pick would be closer than mine and the loser would have to donate $15.00 to the AEF in Dollywood. His money is now on its way to Tennessee as I only missed by seven minutes. So, that’s it for my bit of gloating! Hope I didn’t bore you with it.

Well, enough of me rambling, on to the vids of the day!

And Razzle got another great snap of feeding time.

A wonderful spring day to enjoy with our new arrival. And the best is yet to come as we await our 2nd eaglet and the adventures we will have with the both of them between now and fledging time!

P.S I just found out we are now the featured cam on the Ustream Animals and Wildlife section! Yippee!

Hope you had a great day on the nest and we will see you there tomorrow!
