Nest Update March 22, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 13

Good Morning, Fellow HatchWatchers!

I am posting this installment early Saturday morning after working all night so I will be keeping this short as the nest is calling me!

The day on the nest Friday was uneventful and gorgeous!  Mom and Dad had a good day and changed places often. Mom even got in on the stick delivery business.

At sunrise we observed Mom with frost on her feathers again. BBC did another wonderful dawn pan for us. Thanks, BBC! Dad brought in a cornstalk and tried to cover Mom with it.

Later in the day Mom alerted to something flying over and went into defensive mode. She issued a warning and Dad joined in. A hawk was heard vocalizing in the distance.

All in all an uneventful day at the MN Bound Eagles nest.

I am off to my nest for some well earned rest!

Happy Eagle viewing and we’ll see you on the nest!

Nest Update March 21, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 12

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

It was another cold and beautiful day at the MN Bound Eagle nest!

Now that Dad has gotten the stick where he wants it (we hope!) he had to find another way to get Mom off the eggs so he could have the warm spot again. He caught a fish and brought her half. That seemed to do the trick!

Dad was looking regal at midday on the nest!

Mom has her own ways of getting Dad to move from the warm spot.

The downstairs neighbors were being noisy during the day and Dad took notice. A wing slap settled them down. One of the cam gnomes was watching at the time and treated us to some panning and closeups of Dad and his feathers. Thanks, BBC!

During the panning Mich caught a nice pic of the river to the right of the nest. Looks like some ice has formed in it.

Late in the day Mich caught Mom and Dad on the nest together with Kirby rays framing a family portrait. Just Gorgeous!!

We had a couple of classes visit today and they had a great time. We love it when young people visit with us as we are very keen to extend the love we have for these magnificent creatures to new generations and to add to their understanding of the natural world around us. Teachers, if you wish to schedule a time to join us here please email us at eaglecam@broadband-mn.com to schedule a time for your class. Include your contact details and we will get back to you ASAP.

All in all a wonderful day on the nest. Today marks the 12th day of incubation so we are one-third of the way to Hatchday!!

Happy Eagle viewing and we’ll see you on the nest!

Nest Update March 20, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 11

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

Happy Equinox and the first day of Spring!

The blog is very late again tonight and I do apologize. I just arrived home from a very long day of shooting in TinselTown so I will limit the blog to the vids and pics for the day.

Hope you all had a wonderful day on the nest!

The eagles were greeted by a beautiful and cold sunrise today!

Mich our videographer caught some really lovely interactions between Mom and Dad.

Dad’s OSD(Obsessive Stick Disorder) has been going on for 10 days now. He might want to seek some help!

A big thanks to Mic989Razzle for the vids and pics for today and everyday. And as always a big thanks to BroadBand Corp for bringing us the the video from the Best Cam on the NET™.

Well, it looked to me like it was  a very nice day of incubating and OSD on the nest today. Here’s hoping tomorrow is as nice and a little warmer!

Happy Eagle viewing and we’ll see you on the nest!

Nest Update March 19, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 10

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

Or should I say Good Morning as it is already past midnight at the nest. Very long day of work for me here in TinselTown so the blog is very late and I do ask your forgiveness.

The cam was up and down a bit this morning when I glanced at it but it looks like BBC got it all squared away and we have a much smoother picture as a result. Even the dark viewing at night is better and the sound chirps at night have gone away! All thanks to Broadband Corp for keeping the cam in tip-top shape for us!

The morning at the nest started clear and cold again today. Bekka caught Mom just as the sun started hitting the nest.

I took a shot a little while later.

Later in the day Mom gave full voice to her peal call and you could see her breath in the cold air. Dad joined in off screen and later landed on the nest and took over for Mom.

Mich989Razzle caught the structure of the right side of the nest during a panning session.

Dad really likes it when he has the nest bowl all warm and cozy. Mom landed to take over and again had to persuade Dad to leave. Some very interesting panning followed after Dad left.

MNVicki provided us with a pic she took at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, MN  of a display of the comparative sizes of avian eggs. The one down in front is actually a hummingbird egg and you can contrast that with the Bald Eagle egg behind it. The brown egg to the left is from a common loon, the Minnesota state bird.

Well, tomorrow (today) is the first day of spring so I will wish all of you a Happy Equinox and close with the hope that these deer find what they are looking for!

Nest Update March 18, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 9

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

The Eagles woke to a blustery, cold and snowy day today!

Not as much snow fell at the nest as they thought it would but the wind and cold made for a not so pleasant morning!

I was only able to be on the nest today for a short while this morning so I will keep this entry short and to the point with the pics and videos from today.

Razzle caught Mom early with snow on the camera dome.

Mom and Dad did a nest exchange early and Mom stretched to get the kinks out.

I caught Dad on the nest after the snow had melted off the cam.

Mom and Dad changed places throughout the day and Razzle caught some various highlights of them in the afternoon.

Dads coiffure was looking wild and wooly this afternoon.

Mom came in for an exchange but Dad was comfy where he was. Mom was very patient with him. Credit for this video goes to grisabella63. Thanks, grisabella!

Razzle looked down on the cutting room floor and came up with some outtakes of panning by BBC. Enjoy!

Well, thats it for today and I’ll hopefully be able to spend more time with you tomorrow!
