Nest Update June 16, 2013 - Happy Pappy’s Day!

Good Evening, Fellow Dads and Granddads!!

Just a reminder: Firetruck1988 will be the Guest Blogger on Monday. Don’t miss out on his blog, it’s great!

Also we have a blog exclusive video from yesterday on the blog tonight!

I hope you all had a wonderful Father’s Day. We didn’t get to see much of Eagle Dads day because the cam was down for most of the day. When it did come back up about 4:45pm the kids were standing back to back like teenagers that had a spat over who got to lick the icing spoon. Harmony and Peace looked fairly contented so we infer they did have a meal at some point while the cam was off. They spent what we saw of the afternoon wingersizing, listening to thunder pass by the nest and watching a lovely sunshower fall. Dad delivered a de-feathered aquatic avian and left the kids to fend for themselves. Chatters were amazed at how polite they were about sharing the meal that was left for them. Harmony and Peace both acquitted themselves very well in the self feeding department until Mom showed up to finish the job. She fed them until they were full and then claimed the rest for herself. The kids lay down and pretended to sleep until she left and then they got up and played until darkness fell. Typical teenagers! LOL

On to the pics and vids!

Nest Update June 15, 2013 - A Brog For Saturday

Good Evening, Fellow NestGuards!!

Jeepers, I hate being sorta, mostly, kinda correct. Saturday on the nest was another reduced food day for Harmony and Peace. They started the day with nestovers from yesterday and a stick Mom delivered to keep their minds off their crops. Dad brought in something small and flat about 8:30 am that didn’t even make a decent snack. There were a couple of snacks later in the day but no real meals today. I guess Father’s Day will be another feasting day on the nest. Harmony did her first twigging (standing on the rails and scaring the chatters) today and Peace practiced mantling and stealing food as it arrived. They both stood guard duty for a good portion of the day and BBC treated us to an almost day long panning session. Thanks BBC! Ustream had a major outage mid-afternoon and we all got to practice our page reloading skills. Thankfully they were able to restore service fairly quickly and things returned to semi-normal on the nest. Late in the day Harmony went into full defensive mode as a squirrel(we think) tried to visit the nest. She looked great with her wings fully spread, ready to defend her territory. As darkness fell they were both still patrolling the nest for any threats, foreign or domestic.

On to the vids and pics of the day!

I made a timelapse of the cornstalk escaping from the nest yesterday. It didn’t get far as we saw it on the edge of the nest as BBC panned today.

A tap of the lost baton to Razzle and BBC for the great vids, pics, and panning today! Thanks!

Saturday on the nest started dark and gloomy with some storms that passed close but didn’t drop any rain at the nest. The day finished with a beautiful sunset  and the hope that tomorrow will be a pleasant day for all the fathers grilling and relaxing on Father’s Day. A happy Father's Day to all Dads and hope you have a wonderful Sunday. We’ll see you here tomorrow!

Oh by the way the Brog in the title is an inside joke for the mods and not a misspelling! Thanks for reading this far!

Nest Update June 14, 2013 - Wind, Wings, And Lotsa Food

Good Evening, Fellow CropFillers!!

After yesterdays total lack of nourishment today was an epic chowdown for the eaglets. They had bird for breakfish, fish for pre-lunch, a late lunch of aquatic fowl, and a big black tasty fishy for dinner. It was a wonder they could even move much less do wingersizes like we saw them do. Today was Harmony’s 60th day after hatch and Peace is 57 days old. Maybe Mom and Dad denied them food yesterday so they could pig out on Harmony’s two month Hatchday. The cam was down this morning for a while and when it came back up we were treated to some more pans by BBC. They gave us some good close-ups of Peace and an oriole that was hanging out in the cottonwood. Later Peace helped Harmony with a feather that was stuck in her beak and both bit Mom’s talons as she landed with food. Some good mantling was seen and Harmony got some big air on a few hopping wingersizes. The kids are building up their flight muscles and practicing for a branching that should come late next week or early the week after. However these two have been precocious in some of the other milestones of their development and may branch sooner. Hope not, I want them to stick around for a while longer. As Dad delivered lunch the wind was such that it looked like he was sliding into home plate when he arrived and Mom had to make a less than stellar landing herself. There was a bit of rugby as lunch was served but both kids got a good portion and there was even some left for post lunch snacks. After Dad delivered dinner Mom decided it was so crowded on the nest she landed tail first in the only spot left open to her. Cool move, Mom! The kids were stuffed with fish and the fishtail was left for nestovers. Just before complete darkness fell Mom came back to the nest and fed the rest of the fish and the fowl to the kids so they could sleep with completely full crops. Why do I think there will be no food again tomorrow?? As darkness fell so did the wind and all was calm on the nest.

On to the vids and pics of the day.

It was a fun Friday on the nest and I hope Saturday is just as good. We’ll see you all here tomorrow!

Nest Update June 13, 2013 - First Day Of Summer?

Good Evening, Fellow WingSunners!!

Thursday on the nest was a great day to be an eaglet. Well, except for the absence of food that is. The cam was down as the sun came up so we missed seeing breakfish if there was one. When the cam did come up about 8:20am BBC treated us to some quick pans of the area. Harmony and Peace seemed to have decently filled crops so we infer they did get something for breakfish. But we can only infer. After the plethora of food deliveries yesterday and the day before we were not expecting a day with none. Yep, no food was delivered to the nest today nor were there any visits by the parents. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. The kids had a full day on their own for the first time and they had some fun and some clashes as they enjoyed the sunny day. They lazed about in the sun for most of the day and gave the chatters a nice full wing display and sent a BatSignal to Mom and Dad for a food delivery. Alas, the BatSignal is hard to see in daylight and no food was forthcoming. Along about 4:30pm Harmony decided she had enough of Peace’s playfulness and Nest Rumble 3 started. It lasted for about 15 seconds and ended with Peace standing very puzzled in the middle of the nest. A wingersizing contest ensued with no clear winner but lots of shots to each others heads. Lots of late afternoon and early evening squee’s were heard as the kids let Mom and Dad know they were hungry. At least one parent heard them as they were heard on a branch nearby at about 5pm and later just before dark. Darkness fell on the nest with Peace and Harmony trying to get to sleep with less than full crops.

On to the vids and pics of the day!

Wings galore as Peace and then Harmony spread ‘em for the crowd.
