Nest Update June 25, 2013 - Twisting On A Tuesday

Good Evening, Fellow PanFans!!

Well, today was something completely different. BBC set the cam to auto-pan mode and we were treated to different views all day long. The kids on the branch, the kids on the nest, the field below, some other branches and every combo in between. Some peeps were delighted, some not so much, and some downright hated it. It was interesting to see other places all the time today but it sure plays heck with trying to see whats going on at times and for Razzle to make a good video. Maybe tomorrow BBC can change it up a little and make easier to see some more of the action at a given time. Thanks BBC!

Harmony and Peace had a fairly quiet day in the cottonwood today. They climbed up, they climbed down, they napped, wingersized and waited for a pizza delivery. Mom brought a breakfish of fish and the kids had their crops filled by her. As BBC was setting up the auto-pans today a skull was spotted in the nest by Razzle. The mods debated what it could be and decided either a rabbit or the cat skull from last year. Whichever it is we thought Mom was a little early getting out the Halloween decorations. About midafternoon the cam caught Peace doing a nice float down to the nest. Razzle made a blog exclusive vid of it for us. In the early evening Dad brought a nice tasty fishy to the nest. Peace and Mom arrived about the same time to claim it. In the vid Dad can be heard hissing at Mom and she returning the same to him like she was saying”Back off, buster, I feed the kids.” Dad kinda hung his head after that and left the nest. They really look like a couple that needs separate vacations after the kids leave the nest this year. In the meantime Peace had grabbed and mantled the fish not realizing it wasn’t completely dead. It flipped its way over towards the edge of the nest and as Mom went to claim it to start dinner it fledged off the side of the nest and was heard bouncing off the branches as it got its first, and last, flight lesson. Peace looked a little shocked at this turn of events and was even more shocked when Harmony came down and berated her for losing dinner over the side. No more food was brought to the nest today and Harmony and Peace went to bed a little hungry as darkness fell.

Nest Update June 24, 2013 - Manic And Marvelous Monday

Good Evening, Fellow MondayManiacs!!

BBC had the manic Monday and made ours marvelous by bringing up the cam about 1pm. The team at BBC spent all day Sunday and Monday getting their WirelessISP infrastructure back online after the nasty storms of Saturday night. This included moving generators to tower sites to provide power, teching all the gear to make sure it was working properly, and rebooting the servers that get the signal from the cam to us. This heroic effort paid off and BBC is back online and the cam is back up for us to enjoy. All hail BBC for a job well done!

When the cam came back up we all felt empty nest syndrome hit. The kids were nowhere to be seen! About 2 mins after the cams return Harmony came down the trunk and we were treated to our first glimpse of her after the down time. We could also see that the nest came through the storms with nary a twig displaced. It seems when the cam came back up both Harmony and Peace were taking in the view from their new fave place to be up on Dad’s patio. BBC panned for us a bit just after the cam came up and later in the afternoon. They showed where the kids are hanging out and left it there for a bit. Both eaglets went down to the nest when a parent brought in a snack and we were left counting cars and trucks on the road south of the nest. Harmony eventually came back up to grace us with her presence and the chatters were yelling for her to move so they wouldn’t miss any cars. Later in the evening BBC panned back to our normal view and we watched Harmony and Peace getting ready for bed and playing on the nest. As darkness fell we were all grateful the cam was back and we could see our young friends again.

On to the pics and vids of the day.

Nest Update June 23, 2013 - Sad Sunny Sunday

Good Evening, Fellow BlackHoleWatchers!!

As you probably know from the previous blog entry and /or hanging out in the Social Stream today the cam was down all day. Sadness! The cam went down last night/this morning about 03:34:59 am due to the third thunderstorm to hit the nest area in a very short period of time. Power in the surrounding locale was affected and took parts of BBC’s network offline. BBC has spent the day on repair efforts to get their business back to 100% and will bring the cam back to us when they are able.  We have not had any word of the condition of the nest but as we have chatters that live within a few miles of the nest I am sure we would have heard if any damage had occurred in the nest vicinity. But the bright side of the story is that the bad weather has moved on for the moment and reports are that the nest area and most of Minnesota got a day to dry out and bask in the sun. Hopefully the nice weather will hold for a spell and let the copious amounts of rain that have fallen drain out of the Mississippi watershed and head for the Gulf of Mexico. At least the drought conditions have been abated over most of the region for the time being. We will keep you up to date with any news we hear about the cam or the eagles here and in the social stream. Thank you for your patience as BBC works through this difficult time.

On to the pics and vids of the day!

Razzle had one more in the fire that didn’t make it to the blog last night. It’s a vid of Peace getting her dinner after her excursion up to Dad’s patio.

Hope you had a bright, sunny Sunday in spite of the eagle withdrawals we all were suffering. We hope BBC can solve all of their problems and get us back online tomorrow. We’ll have to wait and see.

See you in SS tomorrow!

Cam outage Sunday June 23, 2013

We just got word from Broadband Corp that they are trying to get their network back online and they will have the cam up as soon as they can. They do not have an ETA for us at this time. Thanks for your patience and understanding. I know we have been down all day and it is frustrating for us. BBC understands our feelings and will have the cam up as soon as humanly possible. They must see to the needs of their business and customers as the first priority. We thank BBC for all they do for us eagleaholics and wish them the best during these difficult times.

Nest Update June 22, 2013 - Super Moon Saturday

Good Evening, Fellow SeleneGazers!!

That big round thing in the night sky, our nearest neighbor the Moon, is at its closest perigee of the year tonight. That makes for what the press is calling a Super Moon. What it means in reality is the moon looks a few percent brighter and a little bigger than a “normal” full moon. If you can, step outside and take a look. You won’t see it any closer until next year. And speaking of full moons, was just me or did we have a kind of crazy day on the nest? It started with the cam being down until almost midday. We infer that Harmony and Peace had an adequate breakfish in the morning because the nest looked like they had a pillow fight with mallard feathers. The warmest part of the afternoon was taken up with naps and guard duty and the kids were squeeing for a food delivery around 3:15pm. The cam again left us in the dark for about an hour and a half so we never found out if the food showed up. After it came back up we had a small panning session (Thanks BBC!) and it seemed like the kids were just as hungry as went it went down. About 7 in the evening Peace decided to see if Mom and Dad were close from another perspective. She flalked ( a combo of flapping and walking) up the tree trunk and found a perch on Dad’s patio near the cam mount. She came back down after about 20 minutes and a short while after had a 2 round wrestling match with Harmony. Shortly after that Peace again went up the tree and stayed for about 40 minutes. During her second stay some chatters said Mom made a delivery of food and Harmony got it. I didn’t see that as my feed froze at that moment.  After Peace came back down the second time Mom again brought a small meal and Peace scored and consumed that one. Peace went back up the tree after eating but was seen to return to the nest before it became completely dark.

With all this tree climbing and extended stays away from the nest the mods gathered, consulted and voted that Peace had branched. We announced it in the SS and rejoicing was heard. Some chatters felt it wasn’t a branch since it didn’t involve any airtime to get there. We searched and searched and nowhere could we find that “branching” has to be preceded by a short piece of airtime. Cornell, CCB, and RRP all agree that it is a change of position in the tree or area of the nest away from the confines of the nest that matters. Nowhere does it say that an eaglet has to fly the get to the new position for it to be considered branching. So the how isn’t important just the change of position and the fact that it happened are. Hope this clears up some of the confusion.

Well, here’s hoping for a calm and “Peace”ful Sunday and we’ll see you on the nest.
