Nest Update June 30, 2013 - A Sunny Mid-Years Eve

Good Evening, Fellow NestTanners!!

Sunday on the nest was Great! The sun shone, Harmony and Peace had food to eat and argue over, Razzle made us some vids including a blog exclusive one and there seemed to be a cam gnome around most of the day to give us some great close-ups (Thanks BBC!). The kids woke up and decided to emulate Dad and played keep-away and That Goes Here! with a stick in the nest. This went on for several autocam cycles so you know they got a good workout. Mom started the morning right with a fish for breakfish that Peace nailed with a flying leap from the branch. A short while later after an attempted steal or two by Harmony Mom arrived with a bird for Harmony to nosh on. Mom left and then made a nice return fly-in to share the nestovers with the kids. She really knows how to start a Sunday off right! The kids settled in for some napping and guard duty as the day turned warm and humid again. Mom showed up late afternoon with another great fly-in and a fish in her talons. Peace scored again (she is really good at food delivery grabs) and Harmony had to wait her turn again. H did a sneaky approach and scored a clean takeaway this time and finished off the fish. Early evening the cam gnome showed us a great close-up of both the kids feet and we could see that those “clown feet” were to be well respected. Harmony’s toes seemed to be thicker and fatter than Peace’s which led to speculation by the chatters that she truly is a female. Peace seemed a little pigeon-toed but that might just be a species resemblance. As darkness fell the lovely Sunday closed with a beautiful sunset and all was quiet on the nest.

On to the pics and vids of the day!

Did the kids inherit OSD or was it just play?? You decide!

Nest Update June 29, 2013 - A Singularly Simple Saturday

Good Evening, Fellow SleepyNesters!!

The 1st day of the last weekend of June was an effortless and undemanding day on the nest. Harmony and Peace were both on the nest with a parent as the cam came back on about 1130 am. The parent left as the cam panned away and the kids were left to their own devices again. They again split the duty as one laid down to nap in the nest and one took the high post up on the branch. A few hours later Mom brought a small duckling to the nest for a snack. Peace scored it as Harmony was on the branch when it arrived. Harmony came down and watched Peace eat for a bit and then wrestled it away. Peace let Harmony finish it and did a real nice fly-up to the branch. A few hours later Harmony was sleeping on the nest and Peace was bored so she dropped down from the high post and tried to get Harmony to play. Harmony was having none of that so Peace decided to kick her in the head. It really looked like she did it deliberately!

Peace flapped around for a bit more then went back to napping on the branch. Mom brought another small duckling that Harmony grabbed as it hit the nest. She noshed on it for a while until Peace grabbed it in a bold drop down move from the branch. Harmony countered with a sliding spin move of her own and reclaimed the snack. Peace retreated back up the tree and that was about all the action there was for today. Night fell with our 2 hungry eaglets waiting for a dinner that never arrived.

Razzle is on sabbatical this weekend so we just have some pics for you today. Might even throw in a few retros from earlier in the season!

Nest Update June 28, 2013 - Foodie Friday

Good Evening, Fellow WildGourmands!!

Harmony and Peace spent the last day of the work week filling up on the copious food Mom and Dad brought to the nest. In the early morning for breakfish there was Mallard ALA Mom delivered to the delight of the kids. They consumed that with gusto and settled down for a nice warm day of wingersizing, guard duty, and napping to finish out the week. But at about 0845 a gosling that hadn’t quite realized it was supposed to be food (it was still alive) was also delivered. The kids, having been a little deprived in the food department yesterday, were happy to nosh on Gosling Tartare´. They polished off both meals so well that there was hardly any evidence to be seen by late morning arrivals to the nest. After their tiffin of immature goose the kids really went for a nap and flap kind of day. Harmony spent a lot of time nodding on the high perch and Peace made sure no one invaded the nest. Late afternoon Dad brought them a snack to quibble over and he retired to the low branch to take a well deserved nap of his own. BBC gave us some good close-ups of him trying to keep his eyes open. A little later Mom brought a northern pike for supper that disappeared quite handily also. And just for fun a large fish head was brought in for the kids to kick around the nest for a bit. They both had a go at it but soon lost interest. Not one to waste a snack Mom polished it off. As the evening progressed Harmony and Peace stood looking off into the sunset and all was quiet on the nest once again.

Razzle, our illustrious videographer, took the day off today so we will just have a selection of pics of the day.

Nest Update June 27, 2013 - An Idyllic Thursday

Good Evening, Fellow NestIdlers!!

Thursday was another beautiful day on the MN Bound nest. The morning started beautiful, midday was beautiful, late afternoon was beautiful and sunset was beautiful. What can I say, it was a beautiful day! Harmony and Peace again split the duties of nest coverage and high lookout throughout the day. Unfortunately we did not see if they had a good breakfish this morning. Food was scarce on the nest today and the kids were squeeing off and on for a snack. Mom brought a small critter late afternoon and Peace due to having the low spot at the time got first dibs on it. Harmony came down a bit later and contested for possession of the snack and eventually got control. Peace, having had her portion, watched as Harmony finished off the small, white furry looking creature. After snackies Peace stayed low and napped and Harmony went back up to visit her new best buddy, the cam. She loves to perch right next to it now and peek in from the side to steal a glance at us. As the evening progressed and darkness fell they were both on high watch watching the light fade from the gorgeous area that will soon be their hunting grounds and play area.

On to the pics and vids of the day!

Peace mantles, and Harmony eventually steals, the snack.

Nest Update June 25, 2013 - Wednesday Wobbles And A Poll

Good Evening, Fellow PanUnFans!!

The day on the nest was hot and sultry for Harmony and Peace today. 86˚ and lots of humidity makes for a day where you don’t want to do much except laze around and wait for it to end. Oh, they played a bit and made a few trips up the tree but it was mostly a blah day on the nest. I guess Wednesdays are supposed to be like that. Early on they both had a go at inspecting the cam mount and trying to tune in a different program. We should all hope they don’t like the taste of wiring! About midafternoon Mom brought in the first ruffed grouse I have seen on the nest. Guess that means the river is too muddy right now for good fishing. Peace got the dibs on the grouse but Harmony scored a clean takeaway and then shared a bit of it with Peace. Harmony filled her crop and Peace waited patiently until she could sneak a bit of it away later. They both had a pretty good meal from it. During one of the pans a large arachnid decided he wanted a piece of the limelight and waltzed across the lens when we were looking at the pond. Luckily he didn’t stay long or we might have had to call the paramedics. The rest of the day it was back to lazing around and watching the cam pan, both the chatters and the eagles. Peace likes to stand on the branch spot and look right in the cam now when it pans back to her. What a Diva! As darkness fell one of the parents was spotted gliding over the pond. Razzle made us a blog exclusive vid of it. Thanks, Razzle, for all you do for us! After the screen was black the P’s were heard on the nest and lots of squeeing commenced. We infer the kids got a late supper that will help them sleep the night away.

Late afternoon the mods conducted a poll in the chat room and asked the question: Do you like the autopans that BBC is doing? We asked for a one word, yes or no, answer. It’s amazing how long a short word like yes or no can be sometimes. LOL The results of the poll were 33 in favor of the pans and 47 opposed.
