Nest Update April 2, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 24

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

The day on the nest was a lovely day in many ways. The eagles had great weather and continued incubating their way to a hatch in about 12 days. The mods wore an avatar with a black “armband” to honor mypete and remember all the great things she did for this nest. The chatters came from all over to share with us their recollections of mypete and the past season at the nest. As the day went on we were amazed at the extent of mypete’s reputation and the amount of chatters she influenced and helped with her knowledge and her wonderful personality. The stories and remembrances were an inspiration to us all. We as her successors here at the nest are more inspired than ever to continue her good work and her legacy to us. So, as we close out this day and look toward tomorrow, we will go back to the business of cheering on the eagles as they bring new life to the nest. Mypete will be there with us, along with Kirby, helping everyone to a greater understanding of the eagles and our place in the greater natural world.

Mypete, we thank you for your time with us and pray that you have found all that you wished for. We will miss you!

                           1946-2013

Mom and Dad had an uneventful day as the spring weather improved again today. The river is running high and lots of geese were heard all day long. It was a little windy early in the day but the wind dropped late in the day and it was calm as the Kirby/mypete rays shown over the nest. Some stick p[ay was seen and Mom bailed out of the nest as Dad got a little wild with his OSD!

Dad finally gets the stick over to the left rail.

Dad showed off his wing for us.

Mom decided to help Dad with his wardrobe.

And later she gave him a smooch.

Mom made a shadow eagle on the nest.

And the Kirby/mypete rays were great again today.

Another site, Eaglecrest, has a hawk nest that has been used last year and this year by a goose couple named Wilma and Fred. They hatched 7 goslings last year and 8 this year. This years hatch was Sunday and they jumped from the nest yesterday. Its about a 35 foot fall. Pretty big step for your first!

Such fearless little creatures! Hope they do well!

Well, time to wrap this up for the day and hit the nest!

Hope you had a great day on the nest and we will see you there tomorrow!
