Nest Update March 27, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 18

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

The day started out lovely again at the nest. Minnesota Spring is in the air! The temperature got all the way to 35 today and may make it into the 50’s by the weekend! We had another lovely visit with a class this morning and they had a great time. Love the questions the young ones ask!

Teachers: If you are a teacher and want to schedule time with us for some personal interaction on the nest please email us at: eaglecam@broadband-mn.com  with your request and your contact details and we will get back to you ASAP. We love to have classes visit and we will make time for yours to have some up close time with the eagles. The hatch is about 2.5 weeks away and it will get busy after they hatch so schedule your time now. You can even make it a weekly thing if you want to so you and your students can have an ongoing lesson on eagles.

On to the nest doin’s for the day! There were a couple of great Panning sessions this morning and early afternoon that showed Dad in some extreme closeups. We even got a view of the barbs on his tongue!

Mom and Dad had a pretty loud morning at times and Mick989Razzle made a compilation of the noise and the panning from today.

Mom performed a takeoff right from the nest bowl and Razzle caught a slo-motion version of it for us.

I have been capturing stills of the nest since the cam came up and today I tried my hand at a timelapse of them to see the changes in the nest since day one. It needs some more work but I thought all of you might like to see it.

As we progress through the season I hope to match up the nest positions and capture a lot more pics. Enjoy!

Mick also caught 2 great stills of Mom and Dad closeup during the panning.

Well, that about does it for the MN Bound nest for today. Hope you all enjoyed the day with us. Teachers, don’t forget to email us with your requests for class time on the nest!

Nest Update March 26, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 17

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

A bit of a strange day on the nest today! The cam went off the air around midnight and didn’t come back up until 9:30 am. Then we were having all kinds of trouble with posts in the social stream. Then the cam went out again at sunset for about 20 minutes. Hmmm Ustream problems??? Only they know and they ain’t talkin’! LOL  All in all it was another quiet day though. I did catch a pic of Mom in the moonlight before the cam went down.

About mid-morning Mom gently reminded Dad who the big cheese is here.

MNBound Eagles My Turn

Dad had a small episode of OSD today and Mom let him know how she felt. He proceeded to tromp all over the nest and her in an effort to find a place for his newest edition.

MNBound Eagles My New Stick

In the afternoon Mom and Dad had a sweet encounter as they traded places on the nest. This pair is really exceptional in the gentleness of their interactions. Mich989Razzle gave us a great video of their tête-à-tête.

MNBound Eagles Sweetest Exchange

During a nice panning session this afternoon(Thanks BBC!) Gazgeorgia caught a glimpse of supper gliding on the river below.

She also caught a nice shot of the eggs during one of the exchanges.

Since last weekend Gazgeorgia has been posting a recipe for Krispy Eggs for Easter treats. The recipe is here:Krispie Eggs  and Squirrelmama made some to prove it could be done.

Small ones!

Big Ones!

She made two sizes, some for the small mods and some for the big ones. I will leave it to you to figure out which is which! (The mods I mean! LOL)

Mich caught some good snaps of Mom during the panning today.

Thanks to all who provided snaps and vids for the blog today! You guys are great! And also thanks to Broadband Corp and MN Bound for the cam that keeps us all entertained!

Well, it was a lovely day at the nest in spite of the gremlins in the internet! I am trundling off to my nest for some rest, too.

Happy Eagle viewing and we’ll see you tomorrow on the nest!

Nest Update March 25, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 16

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

I did not think that today could be calmer and more pleasant than yesterday. Boy, was I wrong. Mom started the day with a little snow overnight.

As the sun hit the nest Mick989Razzle caught Mom mugging for the cam.

As the day went on Mom and Dad changed places several times and Razzle made a compilation of the egg rolls and shimmy’s that occurred during the day. She even caught a PS from Mom in the morning.

MNBound Eagles Egg Roll Shimmy

Even the Kirby Rays were calm and soothing today.

One of the classes we have had on the nest with us sent us some wonderful pictures they drew of the eagles.

Thanks class for the wonderful pictures.

See you on the nest.

Well, after the relaxing and calm day we’ve had today I must hit the nest for a little rest before the next lovely day here!

Nest Update March 24, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 15

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

It was another quiet day on the nest today. The morning broke cloudy and sorta warm in the twenties. By midday it was threatening to go above freezing! Didn’t make it though. Mom got snowed on a little bit around 8am.

Mom and Dad made several switches during the day with Mom having to persuade Dad to leave a lot. She finally found a way to get him to move. She stood on his tail while she adjusted the Feng Shui!

Chatters were wondering what the difference was between coots and mallards today. Bekka had a pic with both in it for them to peruse.

Mom and Dad left the eggs alone again for a minute and again they were well behaved and didn’t make a fuss!

Mich caught Dad doing a stick delivery. Dad was very good and found a place for it right away. Mom just seemed resigned to his OSD.

MNBound Eagles Perfect Fit

There was some excitement at another nest today. The Duke Farms nest in New Jersey had a hawk attack the nest. The Dad there was on the nest at the time and went into full defensive mode. He caught the hawk and killed it right on the nest. There are videos of the attack here: http://tinyurl.com/awnt2ad  As far as we know all is well at the Duke Farms nest and they hope for a hatch in the next few days. Good Luck to them!

There is a new forum where you can get info on a lot of the cams we love to watch. It is called Raptor Central and is updated constantly with new information. Please give a click and visit over there. They would love to have you stop by! Raptor Central

MNVicki discovered today that her cat is a Jedi Knight! The cat typed this for her:   -=[[[[[[========= Looks like a lightsaber to me! LOL

Well, It was an uneventful Sunday at our nest as we wait for a hatch and for Spring to take hold! Hope your Sunday was as nice as ours!

Thanks to all who provided vids and pics to the blog today. You guys are great!

Happy Eagle viewing and we’ll see you on the nest!

Nest Update March 23, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 14

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

Wow! 14 days since the first egg was laid, seems like only yesterday. Time flies when you have eagles to watch! It has been an interesting 2 weeks, to say the least. I hope the next 2 weeks as we wait for a hatch are just as interesting!

Mom all tucked in at 7am

The morning started clear and cold again today. Dad brought a small stick and Mom tussled with him over it a little bit. Later he pulled on his nemesis stick and it finally moved and it looked like it dropped off the nest.

MNBound Eagles Dad Builds a Fortress

I missed most of the day but reports are that it was a very calm day. Mom and Dad switched several times and Dad even resorted to bribery again to get Mom off the warm spot. He brought her a squirrel and she took it and went off to eat it on the dining branch. Bekka caught a good snap as Mom took the squirrel.

A Red Tailed Hawk flew over again today and treated the eagles to the classic movie raptor scream. Mom and Dad both warned the hawk away. It sounded like the hawk was telling them he knew they were there.

Bekka caught some great snaps of Dad and the eggs late in the day

Thanks Bekka! And thanks to BBC for the great cam this year!

Graycsam has put up a Hatch Countdown timer here:Approximate Hatch Date

Well, that about does it for another great day at the MN Bound Eagles Nest! Hope you had a great Saturday, too!

Happy Eagle viewing and we’ll see you on the nest!
