Nest Update April 1, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 23

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

                                mypete

                             1946-2013

A sad day for us here at the MN Bound Eagles nest.

An announcement and memorial information can be found here: Harmon’s Community

The day at the nest was calm and beautiful. Mom and Dad continued their routine of incubating the eggs and adjusting the Feng Shui of the nest. They took turns sitting the eggs and adjusting the sticks and such.

MNBound Eagles Switching Egg & Stick Duties

There were a couple of peal calls during the day but no real exciting things happened. We were treated to some late day panning and some great Kirby and mypete rays shots.

MNBound Eagles Kirby & MyPete Rays Shine For Our Family

Squirrelmama  enhanced a still of the rays for us.

All afternoon after the news of mypete’s passing was announced chatters from nests all over the Net stopped in to the Social Stream to offer their thoughts, prayers and condolences. We would like to thank all of them for their kind words and gentle thoughts as we remember our mod emeritus. Thank You!

Hope you had a great day on the nest and we will see you there tomorrow!

Nest Update March 31, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 22

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

Happy Easter! Hope you all had a wonderful Sunday with family and friends and the Eagles!

Well, this entry marks 30 days of blogs for the nest so far this year. I was a little skeptical when they asked me to do the blog and we all thought it might just be an occasional thing. Wrong again,Talon! It has evolved into a nest newswire for all the happenings on the nest. I can tell you that it has been a blast so far helping all the chatters and everyone else, too, keep up to date with all the doin’s in the cottonwood tree. And I know that it will be a blast for the next however long it takes until we shut down for the year. In case you don’t realize it, it takes the efforts of a lot of people to bring this blog to you every day. The great team at BroadBand Corp who bring us the pictures every day, the wonderful group here at MN Bound, all of our great moderators who grab shots for us and provide great information to the social stream and the classes who visit the nest and Mick989Razzle who records, edits and uploads all of our video clips to Youtube for us. I’d like to ask a favor of all of you. Please take a minute and post a short statement of what you like most about the cam and thank all of the above for all they do for us. You can leave your post at the MN Bound Facebook page, the Eagle chatroom at MN Bound or at the bottom of the cam page on Ustream. I am sure they will appreciate it!

On to the days doin’s! The morning started with a high overcast and cold. Mom let Dad have the nest for awhile and when she returned he was again reluctant to give up his seat. She then proceeded to dig herself a seat next to him. The mods were surprised by this as none of them had ever seen this type of behavior before! Razzle uploaded a vid of it and it has been sent to an eagle expert for an opinion. These eagles never cease to amaze us.

MNBound Eagles Mom & Dad Sit Side by Side

Later on in the morning Mom decided she would find a place for a stick Dad brought in earlier.

MNBound Eagles The Decision Maker

The rest of the day went well and along about 4pm Mom and Dad both let an intruder know he was too close.

Mom was looking gorgeous in the late afternoon light.

As the sun was setting they again had choir practice and BBC treated us to some Easter panning. A flyby was seen below the nest just after Mom left at about 1:13 into this vid.

MNBound Eagles Great Way to End the Day

Mom resorted to a little “necking” to get dad to give up his seat.

And Gazgeorgia caught and Squirrelmama enhanced the Kirby rays today.

After sunset they alerted to something and the air was filled with their calls. Another flyby was seen going left to right under the nest during this session and some thought it was Dad or another eagle. Mom sat the nest the whole time and was looking at something above and to her right.

MNBound Eagles Intruder Alert & Fly-Bys

Was the intruder another eagle or was it Dad circling below??

Well it was a busy day in the cottonwood and we look forward to another wonderful day tomorrow.

Happy Eagle viewing and we’ll see you tomorrow on the nest!

Nest Update March 30, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 21

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

Well, the nest day started cold and rainy with showers and wind overnight into the early hours of the day.  Mom got up about 7:20 am for a good stretch.

Dad delivered a big pile of grass after sunrise and kind of clumsily spread it around. Mom put up with his antics and kept her seat on the nest.Dad did a shadow puppet thing on her back for a moment and left. His stick problem came back and Mom survived a couple of whacks and a little stomping.

MNBound Eagles Around & Over Mom

Mick caught Dad’s nest flyover in slo-mo.

MNBound Eagles Slo-Mo Just Passing Thru

Dad used his patented technique of stick wrestling to get Mom off the nest once again. As soon as she bailed out he jumped on the eggs.

MNBound Eagles The Stickman

We had some great panning this afternoon from the Cam Gnomes at BBC. Thanks, BBC! Mick caught a good snap of some Wood Ducks in the river which we could see has risen quite a bit from the snowmelt and the rain.

They panned around and showed us how much of the snow has melted.

Dad and Mom held choir practice again today when an intruder came too close to the nest. Dad began and Mom joined in. We heard another eagle in the background trying to sing along. To some of us it sounded like a juvenile eagle come to visit???

MNBound Eagles High Alert! Too Close for Comfort

Mick took a great snap of Dad singing.

And Bekka took this one after Mom joined Dad on the nest.

Mom kicked Dad off the nest and he flew after the intruder. Some chatters were wondering if it might be Harmon but we will never know as we did not see the intruder. Things settled down after that but later on Mom tried the stick trick for herself.

It seemed to work as Dad left and Mom took over for the night.

It was a lovely sunset and as darkness fell Mom was sitting on the eggs that in two short weeks we hope will hatch into a couple of cute bobbleheads.

All in all a wonderful day at the MN Bound nest. Thanks as always to all who provided pics and vids for todays blog. And thanks to BBC and MN Bound for this great cam.

Happy Eagle viewing and we’ll see you tomorrow on the nest!

Nest Update March 29, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 20

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

Well, how to begin. As some of you may know there is a big fight on the Internet between some hackers/spammers and an anti-spam outfit named Spamhaus. It has created a firestorm of bits across the Net. Normally I wouldn’t mention something like this except for the fact that it has affected us directly. The spam fight caused Ustream to be slow and crazy at times the last two days and it seems to have taken the MN Bound website offline last evening. This caused me to not be able to post a blog last night and was a bit distressing so we will have to make up today what we missed yesterday!

YAY! On to the blog!

Yesterday was another beautiful spring day on the nest. Temps hit about 35 degrees and Mom and Dad had a good time changing places all day long. I caught a shot of the moon reflecting off the river early morning Thursday

Morning shot of Mom on the nest.

Once when Mom was on the nest a squirrel came to see if anyone was home and got wingslapped as a warning! Dad came down to give him what for also and some strange grunts were heard from the squirrel as he passed the mic on the way to his nest. Dad stuck around for a while and changed the Feng Shui a little.

MNBound Eagles Squirrel!

Mich989Razzle caught a great still of the little intruder.

The rest of the day was quiet and uneventful up until I went to post the blog and was denied. I had some withdrawal pains and resigned myself to waiting until today. Heavy sigh!

Today at the nest dawned a little overcast but the temps rose to the low 40’s by midday. Shorts and t-shirts were taken out of storage all over Minnesota as the residents celebrated the first day of real spring they have had. It might get to 60 tomorrow, will they be water skiing??

Mom and Dad had another lovely day at the nest. They had some good exchanges with Dad reluctant as usual to give up his seat. I caught this pic of one of the changes.

At one of the other changes Dad paused to admire the eggs.

At one point during the day Mom heard the pesky squirrel making noise at the side of the nest again. She gave him another wingslap and checked to make sure he went back downstairs. Just for good measure she gave the eggs a roll and settled back in.

MNBound Eagles Downstairs Neighbor Is Too Loud

Mich caught a great shot of Mom peeking over Dad.

And she also snapped this shot of Mom during choir practice late this afternoon.

And she caught this great shot of Dad on Wednesday.

Thanks to Mich for all the great pics and videos and to BBC for the great cam we have this year. Also a big thanks to MN Bound for getting the website up and running so quickly today. I don’t know if I could go 2 days without posting here!

Well. I think we are caught up now and I will leave you with a sincere wish for SMNBED!

Happy Eagle viewing and we’ll see you tomorrow on the nest!

Blog update Friday March 29th AM

Hi Eaglewatchers!

Due to the fact that the MN Bound site was down all night and part of this morning there is not a nest update for yesterday. Tonight's update will be a double-decker instead and will be posted as early as I can get it up to not miss a moment of the day on the nest!

Thanks for your patience and we'll see you on the nest!
