Nest Update May 23, 2013 - The Mods Have Landed (Again!)

Good Evening, Fellow HappyChatters!!

It was a Thursday to remember! The eaglets had a fun day on the nest and the mods came back to roost.

Let’s talk about the mods first. As was posted in the Eagle Chat Room MN Bound has decided to again have moderators. They considered all the options and decided that having some mods was an advantage and very helpful to the nest and the chatters in the Social Stream. Going forward the number of mods has been reduced and we will be on when and as we are able. MN Bound wants everyone to enjoy the nest and that includes the mods. We will be here as always to answer questions and hammer trolls to keep the nest the family friendly place it was and will be. Unfortunately because of the reduced number of mods there will be no more formal class sessions in the Social Stream. We really enjoyed them and are sad to see them go. If a class does join us in the Social Stream and there is a mod available we will do everything we can to help answer their questions.

Mods will now choose the time they wish to be on and we will rely on the chatters to stick to our only rule: Be Nice!  If there is troll trouble and one of us don’t happen to be here PLEASE just ignore them and they will go away. Trolls thrive on attention and will leave if you do not answer them. You can also leave us a Private Message in the Chat Room with the name of the troll so we can watch out for and ban them if they show up again.

As a mod and the Blogger I can tell you that I am very happy with MN Bounds decision to bring back some of the mods. We hope you are all happy that the mods are back and that you will continue enjoying the nest with us as you have in the past.

Well, enough of that and on to the nest doin’s!

I’ll be honest here. I was away most of the day today and did not see a lot of the goings on. When I was able to peek in it looked like a gorgeous sun drenched day on the nest and the kids were getting stuffed with fish all day long. Harmony and Peace are growing up so fast! Mom and Dad seem to catch all the big ones. Hope the fishermen in the area aren’t TOO jealous!

Since I didn’t see much today I will let the pics and vids speak for themselves.

Nest Update May 22, 2013 - A Soggy Wednesday on Walkabout!

Good Evening, Fellow FishFilleters!!

Wednesday was a chilly, wet and dreary day on the nest. Mom’s hairdo was ruined again and Harmony and Peace had to nap on soggy sheets. Lunch was cold fish delivered by Dad and of course Mom took it away from him. The kids both tried to take the tail away from Mom. The cam gnomes gave us some lovely closeups of Mom’s coiffure and the kids trying to get out of the rain under Mom. She did spread a wing for them for a few minutes and then left for her spa appointment. Harmony did some wingersizing and went on walkabout on the nest for the first real walk we have seen her do. I guess those talons will be getting a lot more exercise in the weeks to come. Harmony even tried to hide under Peace for a bit to get out of the rain. The weather is supposed to be sunny and warmer tomorrow. I hope it is so our little buddies can have a chance to dry out. As the cam went dark we could hear the kids being fed. All settled in after that and another day ended at the MN Bound nest.

A word about the mod situation. All that can be said is that MN Bound is evaluating the options and will let us know their intentions in the near future.

On to the vids and pics!

Another big tasty fishy for for lunch!

Nest Update May 21, 2013 - An Interesting Tuesday (To Say The Least!)

Good Evening, Fellow EagletObservers!!

Whew, what a day! A little background first. Since the start of the season BroadBand Corp has been handling all aspects of the EagleCam. They installed it, got it up and running and aside from some minor glitches have kept it up and running for us to view these marvelous eagles. They were also taking responsibility for the Chat and Social Stream management. MN Bound is the marquee name on the cam. It is their EagleCam and it is a big draw for them on this website. They and BBC have been cooperating to bring us this cam for a few years now. In the past few weeks BBC and MN Bound have been discussing new ways to manage the Social Stream and Chat on the site. As of today MN Bound is responsible for the day to day goings on in the Social Stream and Chat areas of the Ustream feed and BBC will continue to handle all the technical aspects of keeping us provided with the stunning pictures we have come to expect from this cam.

What does this mean? As you may know MN Bound has a LoonCam that has been running for many years without mods. They have decided to try this model with the EagleCam for the present time. All of our magnificent mods were thanked for their service and it is hoped that they will stay with us through the rest of the season to help answer questions and provide us with their Eagle knowledge as they have in the past. I will continue to bring you this blog so that those who can’t be with us on the nest will have a place to catch up every day. Razzle will still be doing our vids for us and lots of chatters will still be posting pics to the MN Bound LIVE Eagles Facebook Page page. So please stay with us as we transit these interesting times. I am sure the cam will be all the better for the changes.

What went on in the nest today? Nothing special.(I’m kidding!) Harmony and Peace had another growing day on the nest. They are getting more adept at using their talons as walking platforms instead of just clown feet decorations. Wingersizing has been picking up and head slaps with wings were sometimes the order of the day. Mom and Dad have settled into the two or three big meals a day routine and are making the kids compete for bites. Nest renovations continued again today and some new greens made it to the nest. I really do want to go fishing with Mom and Dad when the season is over. They manage to bring back some of the largest fish I have seen in a long time. I just want to watch where they fish so I will know the good spots for later. It was a little rainy at the nest area today but things should be clearing out soon and the eagles are due for some sunshine. As evening fell the kids settled in and Mom stood watch over them as usual. Another fine day at the MN Bound nest was complete.

On to the vids of the day.

The kids got damp from the morning drizzle and BBC treated us to some panning.

Nest Update May 20, 2013 -A Lazy Monday

Good Evening, Fellow NestResters!!

The week on the nest started cloudy, warm and restful. Breakfish was actually fish today with some nestover garnish. Mom and Dad worked on more nest renovations and went shopping for some knick-knacks to spruce the place up. Dad came back with some cornstalks and somehow a piece of what looked like cable or black coated copper wire. Chatters were wondering if he was going to make the turtle shell into a satellite dish. Also from somewhere some greenery appeared to add a bit of color to the nest. Mom continued to excavate the nest bowl and brought in more grasses to add to the carpeting already there. The kids would try to nap while this was going on and moved around the nest to get out of the way. Later in the day as the wind increased a little both Harmony and Peace tried out wingersizing and managed to bop each other a few times. Peace became impatient with the pace of the afternoon meal and did a little self feeding while Mom tore into some mystery meat. H&P spent most of the day napping and dreaming of the flights to come as they grow to be beautiful bald eagles. As evening fell a little rain dampened the nest but all was peaceful and the kids drifted off to sleep again.

As I type this I am also tracking the severe weather events that hit Oklahoma today. The tornado that hit Moore, OK has taken an awful toll on the city and rescue efforts are continuing into the night. I and all the mods and everyone associated with the nest wish only the best for the victims of this disaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

On to the vids of the day.

Nest Update May 19, 2013 -Dad’s Big Fish And Roadkill Squirrel

Good Evening, Fellow SundaySunners!!

Yes, it was sunny in between rainstorms today. The day started with a shower that washed some more of the poopcasso off the tree trunk and gave the kids an early morning bath. Breakfish was another turtle (we think) and some nestovers Dad dug up in the nest. Most of the day was spent drying out and preening up. Mom and Dad continued renovations to the nest floor and dug up some more interesting stuff including a 3 week old northern pike. Man, that fish was stiff as a board. Late in the afternoon the nest received another short rain shower while east of the nest in the Twin Cities T-storms poured down buckets of rain. Tornado watches were in effect and the chatters worried that one would hit the nest.

Dad came home early evening with the biggest fish yet seen on the nest. He had already eaten a good portion of it and it was still a struggle to get it to the nest. As he rested from his ordeal Mom started stuffing Peace and Harmony for the upcoming sleep period. They ate with gusto and attained the largest crops seen yet this year. Dad was so proud of his catch he went out and brought home a roadkill squirrel for desert. He and Mom had a little tussle over it’s positioning on the nest and had a digging contest to decide the matter. Mom won, of course. She then topped up Harmony and Peace and as night fell and all was peaceful and harmonious on the nest.

Just a couple of vids from today.

It was a soggy, sunny, then soggy again Sunday on the nest. The kids kept growing and eating their way toward fledging sometime after about 5-6 more weeks. Hope your Sunday was as pleasant as theirs!

Thanks to Razzle and BBC as always for the great pics and vids! This cam still amazes me every day!
