Nest Update May 28, 2013 - A Casual Tuesday

Good Evening, Fellow RelaxedRiparians!!

Tuesdays after a three day weekend are always tough if you have to work. I hope those of you who did have to work got a chance to relax with us here at the nest, if only for a little while. Harmony and Peace had a very relaxing day again on the nest. If these two were any more relaxed we would need to check their pulses every hour. If all children were like these two you would never hear “Wait till your father gets home” again. H&P get along so well we should have named them Salt and Pepper. Reports have it they had fish for breakfish today and a black bird snack early morning. Mom brought some more new carpet and BBC panned and zoomed for us several times. Thanks, BBC! Dad brought home a live fish that threatened to jump off the nest. Mom took over and put a stop to that by stuffing the kids full. Peace celebrated her 40 day Hatchday today. She had a very low key celebration topped off by a dinner of gosling (sorry again mom and dad goose) shared with Harmony. The kids did practice a little more wingersizing and some comical walking on those clown feet of theirs. Several of the neighbor birds (or maybe it was the same one several times) bounced around the edges of the nest and on the tree trunk borrowing some of Mom’s furnishings to feather their own nests in the downstairs apartments. As night fell it was another peaceful end to a very relaxed day at the MN Bound nest.

On to the vids and pics of the day.

Nest Update May 27, 2013 - A Memorial Monday

Good Evening, Fellow Rememberers!!

As Memorial Day dawned cloudy and a little breezy at the nest I hope you took the time to remember all those who were and are important in your lives and to honor all veterans past, present and future who lay down their lives and their sacred honor to protect the freedoms we enjoy. As a veteran myself I honor all those, no matter which service they have chosen, that have made the choice as I did and defend this country at all costs. We enjoy our freedom because men and women such as these stand ready to defend us at a moments notice. The least we can do is acknowledge the debt we owe them and give them the respect they deserve. Please remember them in your thoughts every day.

The day on the nest of our national symbol was calm and relaxed again today. Harmony and Peace had a breakfish of fish followed by goslings (sorry mom and dad goose) that I heard was a little hard to watch them eat. Mom brought the kids a fish to play with and left without feeding them any. They moved the fish around and tried to peck at it without much success. They finally gave up and used it for a pillow. Mom returned a couple of hours later and fed them the fish. It also seemed to be a day of two’s. Dad landed first late in the day with a large fishy and mom landed a minute later with one of her own. Harmony and Peace got individual attention as dinner was served. Both were fed by a parent and were stuffed until they could hardly move. As night fell on the nest there was Peace and Harmony snoring the night away.

On to the vids and pics of the day.

Nest Update May 26, 2013 - Kind Of A Ho-Hum Sunday

Good Evening, Fellow YawnSuppressors!!

Well, it seems we have hit the doldrums between the fast growth stage and the wingersizing and hopping stage. The nest today reminded me of a sign that hangs in a ghost town near me in Southern California. It reads “At this spot in 1894 nothing much happened”. Kind of what we had today on the nest. Harmony and Peace were so relaxed today that they didn’t sit up to eat. Mom and Dad delivered food as usual but the kids sorta lacked interest and at one feeding Peace didn’t even join in. Mom tried to perk them up with a cornstalk delivery but it was a no-go also. Harmony and Peace did try a little hopping practice but their little hearts just weren’t in it. Maybe they were disappointed Dad never got the turtle satellite dish to work and were sad about missing the Indy 500. Oh well, maybe tomorrow will be a more interesting day on the nest!

Some of the chatters were asking about donating to help keep the cam going and to help with improvements for next years cam. There is a Donation button under the cam feed on the Ustream MN Bound eaglecam page. Another place to donate is the Broadband Corp main page down at the bottom. For those of you who can’t or chose not to use the internet for financial transactions the address is:

As Memorial Day rolls around tomorrow I hope you will take time to remember all the people that have meant something to you in your lives and also all of the men and women that have served this country with bravery and valor to help keep America the best and strongest country in the world. May we never forget them.

Hope you all had a great Sunday on the nest and we’ll see you here tomorrow.

Nest Update May 25, 2013 - A Blustery Saturday at The Nest!

Good Evening, Fellow WavingInTheWinders!!

Twas a windy, cloudy and cool start to the Memorial Day weekend at the MN Bound Eagles Nest. The kids had mallard for breakfish and some grackle snacks throughout the day. Harmony and Peace played catch with a piece of duck that then took up residence near the tree trunk. The kids are wingersizing more and practicing using their feet for actually walking on. They even had another small rugby match on the nest today. Mom and Dad were in and out today but were mostly leaving the kids alone in the nest. This is quite normal and they will be left alone more and more as the days go by. They are getting too big for a parent to be present all the time. The cam was down for a couple of short periods today and when it came back up from the early one BBC treated us to some great closeups. Thanks BBC! Razzle got a great shot of Moms eye from the side that shows the structure of her eye! Fascinating! The pic will be the first still below. The cam went down in the early evening and when it came back up Mom was feeding the kids something furry for dinner. They chowed down and then settled in for the evening. As darkness fell it was still windy but here’s hoping it dies down and tomorrow is nice and sunny.

A few words about the present mods. MN Bound decided that a reduced number of mods was what they wanted to implement in their new way of doing things. About half of the previous mods were asked to serve again and they agreed to come back and help out in the Social Stream. The rest of the previous mods are “in reserve” and will be asked back if the situation warrants. MN Bound is going to see how it goes for a couple of weeks and will rethink at that time if it is warranted. MN Bound thanks all the mods for their service and their dedication that has helped make this the Best Cam On The NET™. The mods serving now are Bekka1017, firetruck1988, eaglessoarfree, arkyangel, mibirder, riverroadraptor, and karenann. I will also remain as a mod and the Blogger. Razzle is also a mod for the purpose of posting vids and such in the chat stream and will help out as needed. We hope that you are enjoying the new more relaxed mod corps and will continue to watch with us as our eaglets carry on growing and fledging in the weeks to come.

On to the vids and pics of the day.

The shot I talked about above of Mom’s eye. You can see the depth of the lens and other structure elements. Eagle eyes are about the same size as a humans but are about 4 times as acute in their power to discern detail.

Nest Update May 24, 2013 - The Mantling Begins!

Good Evening, Fellow SnackMantlers!!

Well, girls and boys, protect your food at all costs! Harmony and Peace have entered the “grabby” stage of their development. The morning dawned sunny and a little windy in Central Minnesota. When I peeked in about 7am nest time the kids were still sleeping the sleep of the innocents. Around 9am Dad landed with a small snack and Harmony grabbed it from him and mantled it just like her big brother Harmon did last year. I guess Mom and Dad’s lessons on competing for food are paying off. Mom landed a few seconds later and grabbed it right back from Harmony. H nibbled Mom’s toes in retaliation and decided she didn’t like the taste. If only she knew where those toes have been! Peace was also trying to grab the snack but without much success. The rest of the day was spent in the usual way, eating, sleeping, making room for more food and repeating the cycle. A big fish and several smaller snacks were brought in and Peace even tried self feeding again. Harmony consumed a fish tail, a future pellet for sure. Mom and Dad held choir practice in the tree branches but their hearts weren’t in it and no urgency was heard in their calls. In the early evening Dad bagged a squirrel (I thought he got all those already? Maybe he’s found a new supply at the neighbors?) and Mom fed the kids din-din. As dark settled over the nest full and happy eaglets were heard complaining as a bit of thunder, lightning and rain passed over the nest. They stuck their heads under Mom and went to sleep as the full moon rose.

On to the pics and vids.
