Nest Update April 6, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 28

Good Evening, Fellow Nestizens!

So, a week from today we will start PipWatch. The 13th of April is about the earliest that we can expect to see a pip. It will make for an exciting weekend as we all vie to be the first to spot a pip on one of our eggs!

We started the day rainy and cold again today. Mom and Dad did not look too happy with the weather. Mick989Razzle caught dad sitting in the rain with puddles on his back and drips off his beak. I caught myself humming a BJ Thomas song. :-)

Mom returned to the nest and made a Mombrella for the eggs.

They improved the Feng Shui with some more corn husks and a corn cob.

Late in the afternoon BBC gave us an extensive panning session and we got some great shots.

Egg closeup.

What a difference a month makes. 1st pic was taken 3-8 and the 2nd today.

Mom got tired of waiting for dad to come back so she gave him a "Come Home!" call and left. Dad came in low on the left and made a quick pit stop on a branch before landing on the nest.

Mick caught Mom coming back to the tree!

And Dad getting ready for the dentist. Open Wide!

That about wraps up another great day on our nest. Thanks go to Mick989Razzle, GazGeorgia and BBC as always for the pics and videos! About 9 days or so to go and we will have some eaglets!

Nest Update April 5, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 27

Good Evening, Fellow Nestizens!

Anticipation is growing! Chatters, mods and lurkers are all waiting and hoping for the hatch to commence. Only eight more days until I think we’ll switch to Pipwatch! The nest will be hoppin’ then!

Well, I opened my big trap yesterday and sure enough the weather changed. The morning started overcast and cold with the threat of rain. It didn’t get warm enough for that. It sleeted and rained a bit and Mom sat through it on the nest. She gathered the grasses around and rode it out.

Dad started a new construction project and Mom pitched in to help. They moved grasses and sticks to new places. Maybe Mom has caught OSD??

Some stills from the construction.

Were the news choppers flying over??

Chatters loved this pic of Dad’s eye. Love the spots!

It was a cold, wet and blustery day at the nest. Here’s hoping that it blows out of here tonight and we get back to good weather tomorrow!

Nest Update April 4, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 26

Good Evening, Fellow Nestizens!

The day at the nest started cold and clear again. Almost makes you wish for a change in the weather. Wait, what am I saying?? I hope we have good weather right through to the hatch. Hear me, weather gremlins? Please? Good weather?? Thanks!

The morning and the rest of the day were calm and beautiful. Mom and Dad had a good time changing places and posing for the cam. BBC treated us to some more fantastic panning in the afternoon.

MNBound Eagles Afternoon Panning with Mom

Mom was steady for us in her closeups.

A Great Blue Heron was fishing in the pond.

Dad showed us the meaning of “spreadeagle”.

And then he showed us his biggest attack of OSD yet. Mom was not pleased and left in a huff. As she flew away she gave Dad a little what for and went on her way.

MNBound Eagles Biggest Stick Yet

And Dad got his own closeup session near the end of the day.

MNBound Eagles Two Sweet Minutes

Bekka caught a great closeup of Dad.

Thanks to Mick989Razzle, Bekka and as always BBC for the great pics from today.

Thanks for stopping by and tell all your friends its only 9 days(or so) to Hatchtime!

Hope you had a great day on the nest and we will see you there tomorrow!

Nest Update April 3, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 25

Good Evening, Fellow Nestizens!

The day on the nest started clear cold and windy, typical for a spring day in Minnesota. As the sun rose in height it did warm up some but the wind stayed with us all day. There was some trouble with the feed today so Razzle only had three videos for us today. The cam went down for a short time about 1:30pm and the BBC team got it back up for us quickly. They then gave us an extensive panning session that made up for missing some viewing time. Thanks BBC!

About midday Mom came back to the nest and Dad kept his seat. Mom went into her Oh Yeah?? mode and proceeded to subtly squeeze Dad off the nest.

MNBound Eagles Move It Mister

Some great shots from the panning today. As you can see the snow is nearly melted close to the nest.

Some coots playing in the river.

The backup solar panels and antenna.

Later in the day Mom let the wind take her away.

And the day wouldn’t be complete without a stick delivery!

Well, that about wraps up another fine spring day at the MN Bound Eagles Nest. Thanks for stopping by and tell all your friends its only 11 days(or so) to Hatchtime!

Hope you had a great day on the nest and we will see you there tomorrow!

Nest Update April 2, 2013 - Hatchwatch Day 24

Good Evening, Fellow HatchWatchers!

The day on the nest was a lovely day in many ways. The eagles had great weather and continued incubating their way to a hatch in about 12 days. The mods wore an avatar with a black “armband” to honor mypete and remember all the great things she did for this nest. The chatters came from all over to share with us their recollections of mypete and the past season at the nest. As the day went on we were amazed at the extent of mypete’s reputation and the amount of chatters she influenced and helped with her knowledge and her wonderful personality. The stories and remembrances were an inspiration to us all. We as her successors here at the nest are more inspired than ever to continue her good work and her legacy to us. So, as we close out this day and look toward tomorrow, we will go back to the business of cheering on the eagles as they bring new life to the nest. Mypete will be there with us, along with Kirby, helping everyone to a greater understanding of the eagles and our place in the greater natural world.

Mypete, we thank you for your time with us and pray that you have found all that you wished for. We will miss you!

                           1946-2013

Mom and Dad had an uneventful day as the spring weather improved again today. The river is running high and lots of geese were heard all day long. It was a little windy early in the day but the wind dropped late in the day and it was calm as the Kirby/mypete rays shown over the nest. Some stick p[ay was seen and Mom bailed out of the nest as Dad got a little wild with his OSD!

MNBound Eagles Mom Doesn't Stick Around

Dad finally gets the stick over to the left rail.

Dad showed off his wing for us.

Mom decided to help Dad with his wardrobe.

And later she gave him a smooch.

Mom made a shadow eagle on the nest.

And the Kirby/mypete rays were great again today.

Another site, Eaglecrest, has a hawk nest that has been used last year and this year by a goose couple named Wilma and Fred. They hatched 7 goslings last year and 8 this year. This years hatch was Sunday and they jumped from the nest yesterday. Its about a 35 foot fall. Pretty big step for your first!

Eaglecrest Wildlife Goslings Jump from Nest

Such fearless little creatures! Hope they do well!

Well, time to wrap this up for the day and hit the nest!

Hope you had a great day on the nest and we will see you there tomorrow!
